Found Poetr
In our twelfth week of the semester we were instructed to choose some of our previously written blogs to construct two found poems. A found poem is a collage of words taken from any piece or multiple pieces of literature. Some found poets even compose found poems with script from advertisements and product packaging. I have decided to use the technique of erasure to compose my found poems. Erasure is the technique of erasing the majority of a previously written work while leaving snippets behind in the chronological order in which they were originally written. The two pieces I chose from my blog to compose these poems are:
· Why I Write
· Distilling My Consciousness
Found Poem One:
Sit on the floor
Why do I write?
I often felt alone
imaginary tales
before closing my eyes
With no direct plot
my confusion as a child
in the clouds
gazing out the window
where life was happening
being taught to think
like everyone else
oppressed by chalk
waiting for the bell to scream, “FREEDOM!!!”
talks too much in class
a disruption
doesn’t apply himself
my imagination
a valid means of escape
I write to escape
transcend my thoughts on paper
to live in the third dimension
stand up right
push the chair
open the window
climb out
fly free
my head
the classroom
my thoughts
the slouching student
the window
thoughts become liberated as they transform into written words
Found Poem Two:
Come and Go
Pine needles blanket the ground
green, yellow, orange, red and brown
separate and scatter a crackling sound
fallen branches and dried leaves
into these woods
the only truth
the present moment
water-mirrored reflection the cloud rippled sky
disinfect my troubled mind
my sea of thought
eyes focus
morning dew
leaves of a fern
skip a rock
a tranquil bend of the creek
ripples expand
outward
the infinite expanse
our universe
With the rock I leave my worries
fathom eternity
into the present
lost in my thoughts
even here.
