Why do I smell my first day of school?
Somewhere between then and now
How could this be?
She says she felt it too
Feet trampling streets
Forever, they chase after dreams
Getting lost
Until eyes close and the egos flee
At one time I also had a dream
Those streets beat it out of me
The bitter cold
Asphalt and concrete
I taste the dirt
My face in earth
The birthplace of peace
Where I most long to be
Two decades have passed
Since I was fifteen
Watermelon savored at the nape of her neck
Her arms wrapped tightly around me
Temporarily
A glimpse of a love untouched by time
Grains of sand slipped through our lives
I was eighteen on that Fourth of July
I remember those poems she scribbled for me
As she walked farther away
Her hair streamed with the breeze
I built her a castle she never would see
Waves crashed on the beach
As I awoke from that dream
Fading out of my sight
With my heart in her hands
Silence screams
My love shackled to that moment
Standing frozen, hoping
That one day I'll walk through her dreams
Somewhere between then and now
How could this be?
She says she felt it too
Feet trampling streets
Forever, they chase after dreams
Getting lost
Until eyes close and the egos flee
At one time I also had a dream
Those streets beat it out of me
The bitter cold
